Grantmaking Committee - Call for Expressions of Interest
Do you want to have a direct impact in your community? Consider joining our Grantmaking Committee.
Our Invitation
At the Fredericton Community Foundation, we utilize knowledge, assets, and relationships to create a better community for all in the greater Fredericton region. We work alongside community members, donors, and charitable organizations to identify and address the needs and challenges facing our community now and in the future.
Since 1956, we have acted as a trustworthy community partner for a variety of local charitable organizations and donors who wish to create a positive impact in their community. In 2000, we became a member of the Community Foundations of Canada, a national association that connects 200 individual community foundations from coast to coast. Since becoming a member, we have disbursed over $8.5 million to charitable organizations serving our local community.
We are seeking expressions of interest from knowledgeable community members who have the capacity, energy, and spirit to join our Grantmaking Committee and work collaboratively with our team to help fund solutions to immediate community needs.
Attributes of a Committee Member
We are looking for community members who are prepared to volunteer and embody the spirit of a better community for all. Specifically, you should demonstrate the following:
Strong knowledge of the immediate and long-term needs of the community.
Provide an unbiased view when evaluating grant applications.
Interest in learning about different local charitable organizations and how we can assist them in better
serving the community.
We are striving to build a Grantmaking Committee that represents the diversity of our community – this includes, but is not limited to diversity of race, ethnicity, age, gender, geography, socioeconomic status, and other lived experiences. Anyone over 19 years of age who lives in the greater Fredericton region is eligible to serve on the committee.
Commitments & Expectations
Community members will serve a two-year term, with the possibility of renewal.
Community members are expected to assist in the three yearly granting programs offered by the Fredericton Community Foundation, at this time these include:
Community Grants (March – April)
Rosemary’s Pantry Grants (May – June)
Game Changer Grant (October – November)
Committee members are also expected to assist in any additional granting programs that may be offered through the Fredericton Community Foundation.
Evaluation of grant applications will take place remotely through the online Foundant software over a two-week period following the closure of each grant application cycle.
The committee will meet online once per grant program, with the exception of the Game Changer Grant which will meet once online and once in-person, to discuss and decide upon the grant recommendations.
Time commitments are on average 8-10 hours per granting program.
All committee members are required to follow the confidentiality and non-disclosure policy and notify the
committee chair of any conflicts of interest during the application evaluations.
