Inspiring The Future

Two Fredericton-area students entering post-secondary education this fall are benefitting from a scholarship named in honour of Robert Morimanno, a local volunteer who sadly passed away from brain cancer in 2019 at age 51.

Robert’s family and friends have honoured their loved one by establishing the Robert Morimanno Memorial Scholarship Fund to inspire others to give back to their community and pursue their dreams. Two scholarships are awarded annually to varsity soccer players in their graduating year at one of four area high schools.

Luke Staeben of Fredericton and Mariel Reyes Guevara of New Maryland are the 2022-23 scholarship recipients, each receiving $500 to support their educational pursuits.

Mariel is attending the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design this fall.

“The Robert Morimanno Memorial Scholarship has let me fully dedicate myself to education as I work towards obtaining a diploma in graphic design,” says Mariel. “This experience will allow me to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue a career in design.”

Luke says the scholarship gave him confidence.

“I was extremely grateful to be chosen for the scholarship, and it helped me pay for my first year of Computer Science at the University of New Brunswick,” he says.
