2018 Impact Grant Recipients Announced
Family Enrichment and Counselling Inc., along with Partners for Youth Inc. have been selected to receive the Fredericton Community Foundation’s Impact Grants for 2018. The awards are valued at $15,000 and $10,000, respectively.
Family Enrichment and Counselling Service Fredericton is a non-profit, community agency helping our vulnerable population since 1974. Over our forty-four years of operation they have been pleased to offer counselling services, educational programs and critical incident stress debriefing to the greater Fredericton area.
They have been offering a variety of mental health services to children (using play-based therapy); counselling for couples; individuals; families; military members and a variety of EAP programs. With their professional and confidential services their counsellors can help with challenges involving abuse (physical; mental; emotional; sexual and financial); anger; anxiety; bullying (at work or school); depression; separation; divorce; parenting; relationship issues; grief; conflict resolution; self-esteem; stress and suicide.
With the support and funding from the Fredericton Community Foundation they would like to work with a variety of community stakeholders to improve access to mental health services and programs. A goal of reducing wait times by having mental health serving agencies agree to work collaboratively together to provide the right service at the right time with the right intensity.
They will help move our community forward by gathering on December 3, 2018 at the Wu Conference Center. This day of learning from each other and discovering what we can do to improve mental health services in greater Fredericton.
The mission of Partners for Youth Inc. is to engage youth facing challenges and obstacles in their lives to become capable, connected and contributing members of their communities. PFY achieves its mission through innovative programs and services which promote experiential learning in safe, supportive and rewarding environments, in collaboration with public, private and not for profit partners.
The only program of its kind in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, “Making Waves/Vague par vague”, is a successful and evidence-based teen healthy relationships program for youth. It is delivered within a youth engagement model where the participation of youth as facilitators and participants is key to its success. The focus on young women as leaders in the development of materials and the overall direction of the program is significant.
Youth come together to take part in a series of workshops and activities and then work with support staff to develop an action plan for delivery at their local schools or communities. This peer-based train the trainer program is unique and allows youth to educate and engage their peers on healthy relationships and relationship violence prevention.
The Impact Grant will enable PFY to specifically partner and then deliver this innovative initiative to First Nations youth and communities in the greater Fredericton river valley region, such as the communities of Kingsclear, St. Mary’s, and Oromocto.
The Fredericton Community Foundation is happy to support these projects that are poised to positively impact our community. The passion that these organizations show for improving the Fredericton Region is remarkable. With a keen focus on transformative impact, coupled with their strong desire for community collaboration, we are thrilled to work with organizations likes these and are excited to help fund their projects and enhance lives into the future.
