Brenda and David Sansom Named 2025 PIA Award Recipients

The Fredericton Community Foundation is proud to announce Brenda and David Sansom as the 2025 Philanthropy in Action Award recipients. This annual award honors individuals whose generosity—through time, effort, and advocacy—creates lasting change in our community. The Sansoms have spent decades championing causes that strengthen Fredericton, from supporting youth and education to advancing healthcare, arts, and culture.

Champions of Community and Action

Brenda and David’s generosity has touched every corner of our community. Brenda, a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship, has dedicated her time to advocating for women and minority groups, serving on community boards, and volunteering for organizations like Hospice Fredericton and Portage Atlantic. David has been a key figure in growing the YMCA Endowment Fund and leading initiatives that bring people together for a greater cause.

Their impact is seen in the many initiatives they have helped shape. Whether through mentorship, advocacy, or hands-on volunteering, they remind us that generosity is not just about giving—it’s about showing up, lifting others, and creating opportunities for those who need them most.

A Lasting Impact on Arts, Youth, and Equality

The Sansoms have long been advocates for the arts, helping to bring new projects to life at the Performing Arts Centre, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, and the Playhouse. They were also instrumental in ensuring hometown hero Willie O’Ree’s story was recognized, championing his nomination to the NHL Hall of Fame and supporting the documentary Willie, which continues to inspire discussions on resilience and diversity.

Their dedication to youth and education extends far beyond donations. From mentoring young leaders to creating The Willie O’Ree Youth and Education Fund, they have worked tirelessly to ensure future generations have access to opportunities and support systems that allow them to thrive.

Join Us in Celebrating Their Impact

The Philanthropy in Action Award is more than recognition—it’s a celebration of the people who make our community stronger. Please join us at the PIA Celebration Dinner on Thursday, May 22 at the Richard J. Currie Center for an evening of networking, entertainment, and delicious food. Tickets are now available for purchase online or by contacting our office. A portion of the ticket price will be receipted for income tax purposes.

The net proceeds of the event will go back to the community. Let’s come together to celebrate generosity and inspire community.
