2024 PIA Award Recipient: Margaret & Bill Jone
Margaret and Bill Jones are the embodiment of philanthropy in action with their selfless commitment to the betterment of the community. For a great many years, Margaret and Bill have volunteered countless hours and humbly supported numerous charitable causes within the greater Fredericton area, and beyond.
Though their philanthropic work is unassumingly extensive, Margaret and Bill are passionate and long-time supporters of the Fredericton YMCA, the Nature Conservancy of Canada, the Nature Trust of New Brunswick, and the University of New Brunswick, Among Others.
Margaret and Bill are dedicated and active supporters of the Fredericton YMCA. In fact, 2024 marks the 50th year that Bill has been volunteering with the Fredericton YMCA, serving in numerous leadership roles, including president of both the Fredericton YMCA and the Fredericton YMCA Endowment Fund. Bill also served two terms as a director of YMCA Canada. He also served as a cabinet member for five capital campaigns locally.
As advocates for the protection of New Brunswick’s natural habitat, Margaret and Bill have been long-time supporters of both the Nature Conservancy of Canada and the Nature Trust of New Brunswick. Bill played a leadership role in establishing the NCC’s Atlantic Regional Office in 1998, and he was also instrumental in helping to secure land donations that have resulted in important protected areas within the region.
Together, Margaret and Bill recently established a scholarship award program at UNB. They have been generously supporting UNB for nearly 50 years.
Margaret and Bill’s dedication to serving the community is exemplary. Together, they have made a meaningful and lasting impact. Their love for the community is evident in their generosity and kindness towards others. Indeed, Margaret and Bill personify philanthropy in action.
