Path to Independence - 2022 Game Changer Grant Recipient
November 17th, 2022
The Fredericton Community Foundation announced last night at the For Good, Forever Showcase, that it has selected the 12 Neighbours Community Inc. to receive this year’s Game Changer Grant. The grant is valued at $30,000 and is the largest grant offered by the Foundation.
“The Community Foundation’s Game Changer Grant is intended to be the catalyst to drive positive impacts. We are thrilled to award the 12 Neighbours Community’s Path to Independence project with this grant, as this phase will offer progressive employment for members of the community in order to help overcome barriers, re-enter the workforce, and develop personally,” said Chair of the Fredericton Community Foundation, Traci Simmons.
12 Neighbours is focused on not only providing affordable housing, but helping people overcome barriers and live an independent life. Their sustainable approach of offering barrier-free employment is crucial to their mission of reducing poverty and homelessness in the city.
“The Game Changer Grant is so huge for us because it helps us to set up the initial pool of what we call development funds which help with our Path to Independence Initiative,” said Marcel LeBrun, Founder and Chairman at 12 Neighbours Community Inc. “We’re helping people get there by earning wages and by doing work, which gives people the opportunity to believe in their strengths and their capabilities and grow in those.”
The funds provided through the Game Changer Grant will go directly to funding the beginning wages that community members will earn in their barrier-free and progressive employment.

The newly rebranded Game Changer Grant is awarded annually to worthy projects that will have a significant impact on the project, the organization, and the community. Applicants can request up to $30,000 and the funding is provided through our Community Fund.
The Game Changer Grant was awarded at the For Good, Forever Showcase hosted by Her Honour, the Honourable, Brenda L. Murphy, Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick, at Government House on November 16th, 2022.
Without the support of many caring donors, the Game Changer Grant would not be possible. Many donations contribute to the funding for the Game Changer Grant, and a sincere thank you is extended to all donors and community partners.
